Wkly Hit List, 3/9/2024

Before we get started, I just want people to know that I'm planning a big announcement within the next new episode of FakeTV Box, coming next week. The team is still in the middle of editing this new episode and believe me, there's going to be a lot that will be discussed. At first I was nervous about making the big announcement, but I cooled down and took the pressure off my mind; all I can hope now is that everyone will be okay with it. Moving on, getting ready for this week's 5-Day Rounder, full of great news and took place in just five days.

Our Inside Scoop this week concerns the Oscars. Tomorrow, Late-Night Host Jimmy Kimmel will be in charge of the 96th Annual Academy Awards LIVE from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, only difference this time around is that it will start one hour early on ABC at 7PM EST. There are a lot of facts that need to be acknowledged about this Oscars Event, like #1: The cultural phenomenon of "Barbenheimer" from last year has received a total of twenty-one nominations (eight for Barbie and thirteen for Oppenheimer, which are the most overall for a single film at this year's Oscars). The two films are also competing against each other in six categories, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. I find it hard to believe that a movie based on a doll is nominated for Best Picture, but Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were not nominated in previous years even though they told incredible stories on the big screen.

Here's some more facts: Steven Spielberg will extend his record for the most Best Picture nominations to thirteen, Martin Scorsese receives his tenth nomination for Best Director, and will be the oldest nominee in the category, Thelma Schoonmaker will receive her ninth nomination for Best Film Editing, composer John Williams receives his 54th nomination, and Willie D. Burton gets his eighth nomination as a below-the-line crew member. Ten actors will receive their first Oscar nominations at this year's Oscars, plus, three openly LGBTQ+ actors are nominated, these include: Colman Domingo, Jodie Foster, and Lily Gladstone. Gladstone is also the first Indigenous American actress to be nominated. but that's not all, Songwriter Scott George, who wrote becomes the first member of the Osage Nation to be nominated for an Academy Award.
