Just like last year, we're covering the 2024 NFL Playoffs on our channel and social media platforms, leading all the way to Super Bowl LVIII. Of course, I already mentioned this at the top of the post but I'm just making sure that you KlicKNettars understand how important this is because we might be getting a different Super Bowl matchup than the one last year. If you wanna know what the Biggest Story coming out of Super Wild Card Weekend is, then this Sneak Peek of the Week has the host of Good Morning Football on NFL Network explaining what exactly that could be.

What's the biggest storyline of Super Wild Card Weekend?

Our first Inside Scoop of the New Year takes us even more deeper into football. This week, we've seen many long time football head coach leaving their jobs from their respective teams. For example, Nick Saban retired after sixteen years of being head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide in College Football, Pete Carroll was given a pink slip from the Seattle Seahawks after thirteen years of being head coach. Get this, we found out on his wikipedia that Mr. Carroll was the head coach of the New York Jets for only one season in 1994, whatever could have caused that to happen? Then in the 90s, Carroll was the head coach of the New England Patriots from 1997-1999, though he was only able to win them a Division Title in 1997.

Now we bring to the New England Patriots who last Thursday, parted ways with their long time head coach Bill Belichick. After Pete Carroll's two-year tenure, Belichick was the Patriots' Head Coach beginning in the year 2000, and we all know the story between him and Tom Brady and all those Super Bowls that they won together so moving on. Ever since Brady left the Patriots, the next few seasons were not so kind to Bill Belichick's team, in 2020 they 7-9, in 2021 they were able to get to 10-7, win a wild card spot but then lose to the Buffalo Bills in a Wild Card Game. Then in 2022, the Patriots were 8-9 before having one of their worst seasons in 2023, believe it or not they were 4-13 and get this, Belichick's last game as Patriots head coach was last Sunday, January 7 when the Pats lost to the New York Jets 17-3 in New England. I say it quite fitting given how Belichick and Brady have made life a living hell for the Jets in the AFC East together for thirteen years straight.

After writing all about Belichick enough, it's time to meet the new head coach for the New England Patriots beginning with the 2024 season. His name is Jerod Mayo; he started out playing college football at the University of Tennessee from 2004 to 2007. Then he was selected by the Patriots 10th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, he was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same year and won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots in 2015. However on October 16, 2014, Mayo was injured with a torn patellar tendon that he suffered in a game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6, so he didn't really play in Super Bowl XLIX but he still won a ring. After another injury, on February 16, 2016, Jerod Mayo posted a message on Instagram announcing his retirement, thanking the Patriots for eight years as a player. Fast forward to 2019, Mayo was hired by the New England Patriots to be their inside linebackers coach and some have been saying that he's the top choice to replace Bill Belichick as Head Coach, heck there was even a succession plan put in place of a contract that Belichick signed in his final years in New England.

So the Pats were able to find a new coach quicker than the NFL teams who have yet to find one of their own, you can say the Pats are much smarter than we give them credit for. Just like what everyone else is saying, these are huge shoes to fill for Jerod Mayo, the pressure of being included in an succession plan is nerve racking enough and now it's time to see what he has learned from Bill Belichick next season. He's certainly not going to take the Pats to Super Bowl anytime soon for they're truly in a rebuilding period for the first time in a long time. I guess all they can do right now is watch the playoffs at home like the rest of us fans.
