Wkly Hit List, 9/23/2023

KlicKNet has had one of its most busiest weeks in recent memories. While there's a new episode of FakeTV Box coming soon, we've spent half the week covering the Writers' Strike through our Daily Short Series, FTB 60. We'll bring every KlicKNettar up to speed with what is happening now, but first things first, it's time for the 5-Day Rounder, and it's full of good news minus one story about a bear.

Universal Orlando Resort has made great process in constructing its newest theme park, Epic Universe. It would have opened this year, but thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to wait until Summer 2025. But in the meantime, let's watch our friend Theme Park Wizard what's currently happening at the construction site in our Sneak Peek of the Week.

Our Inside Scoop this week as you can guess is going to be devoted to talking all about the 2023 Writers Guild of America Strike. After 144 days, it looks like the Writers' Strike is finally coming to an end now that the Writers Guild and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers have spent half the week negotiating a new and fair deal. Right now, we're going to document everything between last Wednesday and today.

The September 20 meeting (attended by studio CEOs Bob Iger (Disney), David Zaslav (Warner Bros. Discovery), Ted Sarandos (Netflix), and Donna Langley (Universal Pictures) was reported to be "very encouraging," and led to some "incredible progress." In face, one person who was present commented with these words: "this is what happens when principals get serious...things start moving." After the meeting, the WGA and AMPTP released a joint statement that said: "The WGA and AMPTP met for bargaining today and will meet again tomorrow [Thursday]."

On Wednesday Night after the meeting ended, CNBC released on article on its website claiming: "Hollywood studios, writers near agreement to end strike, hope to finalize deal Thursday." This bring us to Thursday where the four CEOs returned to the bargaining table, with sources believing that both sides were having a "positive feeling about moving forward. The meeting lasted until late Thursday evening, and concluded with another joint message that said: "The WGA and AMPTP met for bargaining today and will meet again tomorrow [Friday]."

During this time, our Senior Strike Correspondent Kwame Alexander had been on FTB 60, reporting every update to come from the WGA and AMPTP, whether it was from Lincoln Center, where WGA members and supporters where picketing in front of the ABC Studios in Manhattan or from home base - in the middle of the night - at iKwame.com Studios on 114th Road Studios New York, he's been on the job for us when the strike began in May and he'll be there to tell us when the strike is over.

All day yesterday, another meeting was held, but still no final resolution. According to DEADLINE: "While the two sides were able to find accord on a number of issues, a solution acceptable to all on matters like AI and writers rooms’ minimum staffing levels has eluded the negotiators so far." The WGA sent out their own message afterwards which said that "the WGA and AMPTP met for bargaining on Friday and will meet again on Saturday." So here we are Saturday, KlicKNet will continue to monitor the Writers' Strike all weekend and should anything new happen, our Senior Strike Correspondent will get right on it. We continue to support the Writers in their pursuit for a fair contract, and we shall do the same for the actors who have been on the streets picketing for 70 days.
