Wkly Hit List, 5/6/2023

Wkly Hit List is still here and it's still kicking, you know why? Because we don't have to follow the rules of the Writers' Strike. We are still planning a season finale for Wkly Hit List LIVE as well as brand new episodes of FakeTV Box. I wonder if the Writers Guild of America will come after me if I write scripts for my show. Being a member of theirs is a big life choice screenwriters make and never turned back and with the strike going on, if you are a member of the WGA then like we talked about last week, we can't turn in any scripts, pitches, or presentations to any studio. As KlicKNet continues to monitor the situation with the Writers' Strike, we would like to welcome the return of the 7-Day Round-Up!

There are so many rumors going around that Universal Studios Hollywood might be getting not one but two hotels of its own, allowing it to become an actual resort. They could be the same themes as the Universal Beijing Hotel and the Adventra Hotel at Universal Orlando. Permits were found by our good friend Theme Park Wizard that show where the hotel might be built at the theme park, so for a better look at these plans, we have a very special and brand new Sneak Peek of the Week.

Permits For Their First Onsite HOTEL!

Our Inside Scoop this week continues our discussion about the Writers' Strike by the Writers Guild of America. We explained what will happen now that the strike is in full effect, but some will need a better understanding as to what the WGA is protesting about. There are at least three goals that the WGA is trying to accomplish: 1. Increase funding and job security for writers, 2. Increase the size of writer's rooms, 3. Limit the use of artificial intelligence in the writing process, that last goal is a little weird to me. But anyway, the strike has gone on for about four days now and it looks like it's gonna be longer, what's even worse is that it's already affected certain TV shows and Movies that were going to be written for production or have been in rewrites during this time.

The late night shows (The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Real Time with Bill Maher, The Talk, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon) were the first victims, but on the other hand Gutfeld!, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and The View are not affected, and once again something seems weird to me because I didn't know Gutfeld wasn't a news show on Fox News Channel. Elsewhere, Abbott Elementary (season 3), Big Mouth (season 8), Cobra Kai (season 6), Hacks (season 3), Loot (season 2), Night Court (season 2), Power Book III: Raising Kanan (season 3), Saturday Night Live, Unstable (season 2), Marvel Studios' Wonder Man, and Yellowjackets (season 3) were forced to shut down productions, but on the other hand the shows that won't have to shut down are American Horror Story: Delicate, Billions (season 7), Good Omens (season 2), House of the Dragon (season 2), The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (season 2), Rap Sh!t (season 2).

We found out earlier in the week that Drew Barrymore will stepped down as host of the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards, set to happen tomorrow, in solidarity with the strike, and had agreed to return for the 2024 ceremony. Even though the award ceremony won't be affected by said strike, MTV said yesterday they would cancel plans for it to be LIVE on television and they will instead air a pre-taped broadcast. If that's wasn't enough, the Writers' Strike has made Community fans angry because there was going to a movie based on the hit NBC show Community set to go into production, but now it's been shut down. A bigger tentpole aka movie that has been shut down is Marvel Studios' Blade which was already going through a lot before the strike, last year the movie lost its director and it release date, and then it went through hiring new writers who rewrote most of the script.

On the other hand, two upcoming movies are not affected, believe it or not, are Superman: Legacy which was fully written by James Gunn weeks before the strike, and Good Burger 2, THANK GOD FOR THAT! Two other movies people are hoping will not shutdown are The Thunderbolts and Deadpool 3, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Marvel Studios might go full steam ahead and begin filming on both of them very soon despite the ongoing strike. The big reason why Marvel Studios is still planning on both of these huge productions continuing with their filming start is because they might be hoping the Writers' strike will be resolved by then. That would be a miracle, but on the other hand I have a feeling that this strike will go on into the summer, and even if the WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers do come to an agreement, who knows what other shows and movie will be shut down and how will it affect scheduling for the Fall Season and beyond.
