Our Main Topic this concerns Merck's groundbreaking antiviral COVID-19 drug. With a little help from scientists and fact-checkers, we're going to take another look at the orange pill that might that prevent or treat COVID-19, but it's important for me to point out that Pfizer is working on a similar drug as well. The pharmaceutical company has gone on to say that its pill cuts the rates of hospitalization and death by nearly 90% in high-risk adults, meanwhile, Merck’s COVID-19 pill is currently already under review at the Food and Drug Administration after showing strong initial results. Even better news, it was reported last Thursday that the United Kingdom has become the first country to approve the orange pill made by Merck. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency approved the use of the antiviral pill, allowing it to be taken twice daily by vulnerable patients who have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19. The United Kingdom Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said that the new treatment would be a "game changer," and I agree with those two words, if the United States were to approve it for use like the UK, then you can sign me up as one of the many Americans who will take that orange pill get the f--- outta this pandemic forever. More details on the big news overseas can be found down below in a brand new #TwitterTrend.
