With Tokyo 2020 2021 finally over, the Japanese city can pass the Olympic baton to Paris after, NBC News call imperfect and irrepressible games. People say that Tokyo had been staging a Summer Games event that was delayed by COVID-19 last year and dismayed a skeptical public, but still delivered its share of drama. According to NBC News, the closing ceremony was, the same as the opening ceremony, a celebration of sports and Japan that played out before an audience of mostly empty seats. So now, we must wait next 3 years to these wonderful athletes, and in France, crowds gathered to celebrate the handover of the summer games to Paris 2024, dancing and celebrating at the foot of the Eiffel Tower while fighter planes trailing a tricolor of blue, white and red smoke swooped through the sky. Check out what seems to be the final update to the Tokyo 2020 Medal Count and also new MLB results in a brand new Max Sports rundown.

Our Main Topic this week concerns the COVID-19 Delta variant, as predicted by the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci, there has been a surge in COVID cases. Not just in the United States, but as well in other places in the world this Summer, many have taken a few steps to prevent the spread of this variant from getting worst, President Joe Biden has sent vaccines to places in the world that badly need them, put out a mandate for unvaccinated people to continue to wear masks, and cities in the U.S. are putting COVID restrictions back into place. But one troubling issue regarding the Delta variant that needs to be shed some light on is how will students be able to go back to in-person learning this Fall semester. Luckily for me, three of my courses at Brooklyn College will be held online, and two more are supposed to be hybrids (both in-person and online). But, it maybe two courses will have limited in-person meetings on campus, for instance, one course will not be meeting in-person until the very last week of the Fall semester as its final exam or assignment will be on December 13th. So schools have kept a balance between remote learning and in-person meetings, and with 93% of new US COVID cases, it could get real ugly come the Fall and Winter for this country which has fought so hard to beat the coronavirus. For more information on the handling of the Delta variant, here are some selected videos in a political Web Choice playlist.
