 This Week's UPDATES

So here we are, one year after the COVID-19 outbreak turned into a global pandemic, and I don't need to tell you everything we've experience in the past year because we already now. It's amazing how some of us have been able to live with this virus still a strong hold on everything, and some of us are lucky to be alive after year where over 500,000+ Americans have died. One year ago at this time, we didn't know what direction we would go, we were fed with lies that this pandemic would last for a short period of time, but it didn't. Even more tough is that one year ago, we had an US President who was incapable of doing his job and could not get things under control, so we had to vote him out of power and elect a new President who understood more about the situation. In a year of full of global health crises, social injustice, political injustice and the passings of famous people, we battled through 2020 hoping that the new year would be much nicer, yet our issues followed us to 2021. It was already explained last year that it make may take months and months for vaccine to be received to the public and that was no lie, people are now be vaccinated and more will be along the way. Better news is that Congress has passed the $1.9 Trillion Dollar COVID-19 Relief Bill that's badly needed for people who have suffered the worst of this pandemic in the United States, and there might be more good news to come. We'll get into that later, but for now, it's time for this week's 7-Day Round-Up.

Our Main Story this week takes a closer look into President Joe Biden's primetime address to the US nation last Thursday night. Commemorating the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, the president would speak to the American people about where we are right now and how many lives were lost in just one year. Hours before this, he signed the American Rescue Plan which was passed by the House of Representatives twice and in between that time, it was passed by the Senate. This was one of many first steps of getting the pandemic under control, there are many more that need to be done, Biden called out to people to keep wearing masks, social distance from each other, and more importantly take the vaccine. During the speech, he announced that May 1 was target as to when all adults eligible for COVID-19 vaccines, and that vaccine supply for all adult Americans would be available by the end of the same month. As most people will remember, he also said that families could celebrate the Fourth of Year much better this year than last year, but only in small groups. Other key notes from this speech are: Launching a website for easier vaccine registrations, making the openings of K-8 schools a priority for Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, and providing guidance on what vaccinated people can do. Finally, President Joe Biden told in this speech that he needs "every American to do their part," so this way the pandemic will end safely and that normality can return much better. For reaction to the President's words, here's special political #TwitterTrend with many people weighing in on his speech.

NEW: Biden says the government is well on track to beating his goal of 100 million shots given out in the first 100 days. Based on the current pace of more than 2 mil/day and ramped up supply, the U.S. will now hit that mark by day 60.

Max Burns @themaxburns
