Our Main Story this week comes one day after the United States Senate voted 57-43 to acquit former president Donald Trump on Saturday, after he was charged with inciting the January 6 attack on the US Capitol building. Despite the Democrats and House Impeachment managers' best efforts, they were unable to get 17 Republicans on their side and convict Trump for his actions on that shocking day last month. It feels like déjà vu from last year when the Democrats failed to have Trump convicted when we was still in office and just as COVID-19 was about to change all our lives forever. Similar to last year, no witnesses were called, and this was a deeper shocker because the Senate voted 55-45 yesterday morning to begin process for calling witnesses as a part of impeachment trial, but an agreement reached to avoid this. According to NPR, House managers and Trump's attorneys agreed to stipulate that a statement released Friday by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., could be entered into the trial record. Had there been witnesses in this trial, then its conclusion could have been delayed for weeks as well as the Senate's other business for weeks. So now the question is, what's next? We know that President Joe Biden is still trying to push his COVID-19 agenda to congress and it may take a little while long for his relief plan to be passed. However, there may be some hope left for Trump to be ban from future officer in DC again with the help of the US Constitution, which brings us to the important part of this story.

As followed in Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment in the Constitution of the United Sates of America:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
The most interesting thing about this is that the Democrats do not need well over 60 votes to invoke a 14th Amendment resolution, and they would just need a simple majority of votes in order to prevent Trump from running for office in 2024 and beyond. As I sit in front of my computer writing this, it makes me wonder why haven't the Dems been doing this the whole time, not that Impeachment was a waste or anything, but if they couldn't convict Trump, they could have come up with a much easier way to end his reign in Washington for good and we can all move on with rebuilding the country that he failed to lead under his watchful eye. To hear from others about invoking the 14th Amendment, here is everything leading to the idea with a look back at the last day of the Impeachment Trial in this all-new Web Choice playlist.
