Our Main Story this week is on the surgence of COVID-19..............................vaccines, what else did you think we're going to talk about? I spent a while praising the pro of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and the Moderna vaccine, as well as the cons of these two. This week, we're going to catch on the latest news on the new COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. Last Friday, the company known for developing medical devices, pharmaceutical, and consumer packaged goods like mouth wash and baby oil, announced some good news on the analysis of their Phase 3 trials. Media outlets are calling the results "good," I think that there's no other word to describe it, but the difference with this vaccine than the others is that patients only have to take it once. Johnson & Johnson announced its single-shot vaccine is 66% effective in preventing moderate to severe COVID-19, even more so, it was found to be 85% effective at preventing severe disease and 100% effective at preventing hospitalization and death. Now here comes the con of it all, while the vaccine is much stronger in the US, it is less effective to the new variant of COVID-19 found in South Africa, which has already hit eastern part of the US. Other things to talk about Johnson & Johnson, it expects to be able to produce 1 billion doses of vaccine a year — more enough to protect 1 billion people, Dr. Fauci has said that the new vaccine is "good news" when trying to win the fight against COVID-19. Finally, J&J says it will be filing for its Emergency Use Authorization application to the FDA this coming week as the US currently has an order for 100 M doses of the J&J, with the order to be fully filled by the end of June. All this in general will help President Joe Biden's push to get 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the arms of Americans in his first 100 days a bit quicker.
