 This Week's UPDATES

Happy Belated New Year, we can all finally put 2020 behind us, but the damage from that year remains. Unless we can correct out mistakes from the past, everything now will stay the same for months and months to come. I believe my New Year's resolution is to do everything in my power to make everyone happy knowing that this pandemic has effected us all psychically, emotionally, and mentally. My YouTube channel, the fakeTV Box, has gone to a slow start, but soon there'll be more videos regarding the latest news of the week, and more of my work in college. We'll going to discuss the event if this past week later on in this post, but first, treat yourself to the first 7-Day Round-Up of the New Year.

Our first Main Story of the New Year takes a deep-dive in what was no doubt, the most disgraceful scene in the history of our national's capital. Just when you fought President Trump couldn't do anymore, most people probably saw it coming, he really did it this time. On the morning of January 6, 2021, pro-Trump protesters gathered for the "Save America March" in front of the White House in DC, they were in support of Trump's attempts to overturn President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election. Long before the March began, US Congress was scheduled to meet that afternoon to count the results of the Electoral College vote and certify Joe Biden as the winner of the election. Trump gave a speech declaring he would "never concede" the election, criticizing the media and calling for Pence to overturn the election results, which will never happen, especially after the events that followed this speech. It's best that I don't write what he said exactly because his words are like "toxic," they're what sparked his supporters to do the unthinkable last Wednesday. Towards the 2PM Hour, a mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol and after breaching multiple police perimeters, they vandalized, ransacked, and occupied parts of the building for several hours; all of this led to the evacuation and lockdown of the Capitol building. The reactions across the world about what went down were overwhelming, with condemnation by political leaders and organizations. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for Trump to be removed from office, either through the 25th Amendment, by impeachment, or for him to resign. Facebook responded by locking Trump's accounts and removing posts related to the incident, and Twitter locked his account for twelve hours, before permanently suspending it. So many words were thrown out to describe the riots and storming of the Capitol such as "treason", "insurrection", "sedition", "domestic terrorism",and an attempt by Trump to carry out a "coup d'état." So on Friday evening, reports were confirmed that House Democrats were moving forward with impeaching Trump for a second time, and with one final week left in his term. On Saturday afternoon, Democratic lawmakers Jamie Raskin, Ted Lieu and David Cicilline announced that the House plans to submit articles of impeachment against Trump tomorrow (Monday), accusing him of inciting an "insurrection" at the US Capitol. For more on this, we turn now to a political #TwitterTrend, highlighting a few key details about the articles.

JUST IN: Reps. Raskin, Lieu, Cicilline are planning to introduce articles of impeachment Monday; plan currently doesn’t have formal sanction from Speaker Pelosi.

Lieu and Cicilline started drafting articles while in lockdown in Cicilline’s office, per two congressional officials

UPDATE to the update: We’ve just hit 180 cosponsors of the Article of Impeachment drafted by Rep @davidcicilline, @RepRaskin, me and @HouseJudiciary staff.

We will introduce the Article of Impeachment this Monday during the House’s pro forma session.

Bernie Sanders @BernieSanders
Some people ask: Why would you impeach and convict a president who has only a few days left in office? The answer: Precedent. It must be made clear that no president, now or in the future, can lead an insurrection against the U.S. government.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @RepAOC
Congress will now be introducing articles of impeachment on Monday.  Yesterday, our Squad urged House Leadership to move quickly to impeach this President.  Unfortunately, our country does not have the luxury of time.

Ron Wyden @RonWyden
The behavior of President Trump and Senators Hawley and Cruz culminating in the assault on the seat of our democracy shocks that conscience. Any Senator exhorting such an assault violates their sworn oath and is unworthy of holding federal office.

Matt Cartwright @RepCartwright
This week, the president encouraged a rampage on our Capitol that attempted to disrupt one of our core Constitutional processes.

This is intolerable & unacceptable behavior by an American president. I join those calling for his immediate resignation. My full statement
