Our Main Story this week is our continuing coverage of the search for a COVID-19 vaccine, now keep in mind, after I did the story last week that Pfizer's OOVID-19 vaccine was 90% effective, I realized that I have given much mention to Pfizer's partner BioNTech. So today, I was going to discuss a BBC News interview on the co-founder of BioNTech, German Professor Uğur Şahin. He told BBC last week that "it is possible to have a "normal winter next year" if a large number of people are vaccinated in the spring of 2021," so many next year's Thanksgiving will be better than this one. After I chose this story for today, it was announced the next day that Moderna's vaccine is 94.5% effective and is more stable under less colder temperatures than Pfizer's, but I elected to talk about that on Facebook, and then I learned that Pfizer is planning to launch COVID-19 vaccine delivery program in four US states (New Mexico, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Texas). You can find this story in the Round-Up from up above, of course this brought me to next story I was planning to talk today, and that's the news that Pfizer and BioNTech announced their vaccine passing phase three trials and all other safety checks, and is now 95% effective. This brings me to a story broken out last Friday in which Pfizer and BioNTech said they would submit a request to the US Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization of their vaccine, however the vaccine is not yet fully approved which could take up until early next year in 2021. I've been patient young man for a vaccine to approve all year round, and I've learned that we all have live another year with this virus so that one day we can all get better to "actual normal." Relive Pfizer and BioNTech's week-long journey in a three-part #TwitterTrend and that is safe and effective.

Part 1: BioNTech co-founder says next winter could be 'normal' if a high vaccination rate is achieved

‘Next winter could be normal’ thanks to coronavirus vaccine says BioNTech creator as 300 million Pfizer jabs set to roll out by April https://t.co/3FDNNHXqPu?amp=1

Rachel Wearmouth @REWearmouth
Vaccine scientist Ugur Sahin, who Marr calls "the man who saved the world", reminds prog the discovery was "Turkish as well as British".

He adds "winter will be hard" as the vaccine cannot be rolled out immediately.

Kate Andrews @KateAndrs
CEO of BioNTech tells Marr that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine could get us a 'normal winter next year', if big efforts are made to get people vaccinated in summer 2021. This contradicts Sir John Bell's confident claims last week that we'll be back to normal by spring.

BrinleyBruton @BrinleyBruton
“We had decided from the very beginning to stay independent ... didn’t get direct support from #OperationWarpSpeed,” Uğur Şahin, co-founder of biotech firm #BioNTech, which developed a #COVID19 vaccine for #Pfizer, tells the @BBCNews, contradicting President Trump.

Part 2: Pfizer and BioNTech say their vaccine is '95% effective' and has passed safety checks

The Associated Press @AP
BREAKING: Pfizer suggests its coronavirus vaccine is 95% effective and that the shots would protect older people most at risk of dying.
Eric Feigl-Ding @DrEricDing
BREAKING—Updated results from Pfizer said it’s #COVID19 vaccine is 95% effective (vs 90% in previous early results) and had no serious side effects. 94% effective in older adults. Of 170 cases, 162 in placebo. Of 10 severe, 9 in placebo. This is HUGE!!

Eric Feigl-Ding @DrEricDing
2) If the F.D.A. authorizes the two-dose vaccine, Pfizer has said that it could have up to 50 million doses available by the end of the year, and up to 1.3 billion by the end of next year.

Ashish K. Jha @ashishkjha
Vaccine update from @pfizer

What's new?

Efficacy 95%. No major safety issues

But BIG news is efficacy of 94% among those over 65

Pleasantly surprised

Protecting elderly critical. My fear was vaccine would work less well for them

Still lots to learn but happy for good news

Helen Branswell @HelenBranswell
Pfizer-BioNTech #Covid19 vaccine trial final data are out and they look great. So much good news here. We don’t know durability — how long Covid vaccines will last — but that is always true with a new vaccine. This is really hopeful news. https://t.co/P8VIHnDVwz?amp=1

Isaac Bogoch @BogochIsaac
Pfizer's Phase 3 #COVID19 vaccine trial is finished & looks phenomenal.

95% efficacy, and seems to be rather well tolerated - with the caveat that this is based on the press releases & we need to see data.

A lot to be excited about.

Scott Gottlieb, MD @ScottGottliebMD
Game change. This is a great day for patients as Pfizer (where I serve on the BoD) announces final top line results from the phase 3 trial with its Covid-19 vaccine. We should now have two vaccines that could effectively end the U.S. epidemic next year if everything goes right.

Part 3: Pfizer and BioNTech file for emergency use of COVID-19 vaccine in the US

ABC News @ABC
Pfizer and partner BioNTech announced they will submit a request on Friday to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization of their COVID-19 vaccine candidate.
AJ+ @ajplus
Pfizer is requesting FDA emergency authorization for its #COVID19 vaccine, which it says is 95% effective.

▪️ Emergency use does not mean fully approved
▪️ 50 million doses expected in 2020, half to U.S.
▪️ 80% all 2020-2021 doses already sold to rich countries
Dena Grayson, MD, PhD @DrDenaGrayson
BREAKING: Great news! @Pfizer to submit an Emergency Use Authorization request to
@US_FDA *TODAY* for its #coronavirus vaccine—they’ll will distribute the #vaccine "within hours after authorization.”

Pfizer has enough to dose ~12.5 million Americans this year, much more in 2021.
BioNTech SE @BioNTech_Group
We are submitting our first request for an #EUA in the U.S. for vaccine candidate #BNT162b2 against #covid19. We look forward to continuously providing data to various regulatory authorities as part of our rolling review process – including the @EMA_News. https://bit.ly/36RBUjA

Pfizer Inc. @pfizer
#COVID19 UPDATE: We will submit a request today to the @US_FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of our mRNA vaccine candidate with @BioNTech_Group.
