Our Main Story this week is about NBA and a new update of what might coming for the 2020-21 season. We know that the NBA wants fans to be allowed in attendance even though there's no vaccine that can get the NBA arenas across the nation at full capacity of screaming and passionate fans. Also, the NBA is trying to limit travel for all 30 teams so they don't have to keeping hoping a plane from city to city, but what has not yet been figured out is when the 2020-21 season will start and how many games will be played for each teams, until last Friday. ESPN reported that the NBA is "pursuing a pre-Christmas Day start and a reduced regular-season schedule for the 2020-2021 season, abandoning plans to delay the opening with hopes of incorporating fans back into arenas." The board of governors of the NBA meet last Friday to discussing possible changes to plans which include as followed: a 72-game regular season, a play-in tournament, no All-Star Game or All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, and a two-week break at the midway point of the season.

After sharing these plans with the board of governors, the league plans to move quickly to complete negotiations with the National Basketball Players Association to implement the plan as a deadline for the a CBA agreement is next Friday, October 30. A couple of things to point out from this, the reduction of regular-season games would not only allow the league to have a play-in tournament format for both conferences, but also allow the NBA to finish its season before the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan which was postponed from this past summer to next. From what I've heard, the date the NBA is going for a "pre-Christmas start" is December 22nd which helps the league's television partners -- ESPN and Turner -- big time as Christmas Day games are very important to all parties involved. Finally, the NBA strongly prefers to stay out of a bubble format and have discussed travel and game schedules that would keep teams in a marketplace longer and playing multiple games, similar to the series format for MLB games. Thinking about, I actually like that idea a lot for we might see a NBA that we've never seen before and keep in mind, the league plans to celebrate its 75th Anniversary next year, hope their plans don't get derailed like everything else this year. For more on the details on what the NBA is planning for its upcoming season, here is a new Web Choice playlist with other people's thoughts and opinions.
