This Week's UPDATES
The day 4th of July holds so much meaning to me, each one is always memorable to me, as last year I lost my wallet on a bus ride home after seeing Spider-Man: Far From Home. That was at a time when there was no such thing as a COVID-19 pandemic and we were entitled to be large crowds. Of course, when losing my wallet on a bus and on the 4th of July, it made me realize that I needed to start making responsible decisions from here on in, though I feel like I made another bad decision last night on the 4th of July and now it will stick to me for years to come. Before then, I enjoy myself yesterday as I got eat at lot of food and see a ton of fireworks despite the pandemic still ongoing, and with that being said, let's go to the latest 7-Day Round-Up.

Our Main Story this week concerns a shocking domino effect that got started last Thursday. There was a lot pressure on the Washington Redskins who had been requested by FedEx, one of the NFL team's sponsors, to change its team name. Keep in mind, the Redskins' football field is named after FedEx, so imagine what would happened if the Redskins chose to ignore the request made and continue to call themselves the Redskins. But in the midst of this controversy, other sponsors like Nike and Pepsi announced that they would drop their sponsorships with the Redskins if the team did not change their name. To go back in time, the name and logo of the Redskins has been part of a larger controversy regarding the use of Native American names, images and symbols by a non-native sports team, and fact that the team is located in the nation's capital and the name itself being defined as "usually offensive","disparaging", and "insulting." The same thing can been said for the Cleveland Indians in baseball who have faced controversy over their name and logo for so many years. Then last Friday morning, the Redskins announced that they would "undergo a thorough review" of their team's name and it seems like they might change it before the 2020 NFL Season. Hours afterward, the Indians announced that they too would "determine the best path forward" regarding the team's name and emphasized the need to "keep improving as an organization on issues of social justice". This is what you call a domino effect because once the Redskins finally decided to take action, the trend would begin to catch on with another sports team, and from the looks of things, 2020 could be the time we'll ever hear of the Indians playing in a MLB season which will finally get started this month under different circumstances. In one honest opinion, I am blown away by this shocking development and wonder what the these teams will be called in the near future. Until then, let's take a deeper dive into these stories with a special edition of the Web Choice playlist, and I would like to say before I go that I have major announcement about how I'm going to expand this blog on a "much bigger platform."
