This Week's UPDATES

I should address a few things before we get down to business in a moment. Last Sunday afternoon, my two older brothers had finally gotten to help put in new ram memory chips into my desktop computer. The good news was that we got them into the computer as my brothers showed me what to do, but the bad news out of this is that once we put everything back together, the computer was unable to boot itself back up again. We've tried almost everything to figure and perhaps I unintentionally pull something out when I was putting in the new ram, I also tried to put the old ram chips back since the new ones weren't working. However, either pairs of rams has been to get the computer to boot back up and for the past week, I've had to stick to using the iPad my mom gave to do write daily updates on Facebook. Even more so, I have written this post on #KlicKNet using the Chromebook my sister has been using from work, but on the bright side, I have been promised a Mac Desktop that is meant to help me create more videos for school. The most troubling thing about losing a computer that my family has had for the better part of nine years was that I did not think to put most of my personal files on a flash drive along with my college work, and trying to get back won't be so easy as I have been told, despite the fact I was successfully remove the hard drive from the computer. I would be able to get everything I had on the hard drive back if I could find a computer repair store to fix it or I could buy a tool that transfer what's on the removed drive to a new computer, and I don't know about you, but I'm leaning towards Option #2. Finally, one of the personal files I mentioned was a Word document where I create the 7-Day Round-Up every week, so this address was to simply make up for the fact there will be no Round-Up this week and maybe for a little while.

Our Main Story this week is about the NBA and NHL who will both "return-to-play" after weeks on negotiations and approving formats for each league. A couple of weeks ago, the Commissioner of the NHL Gary Bettman announced at 24-team playoff format with the playoffs being held in two hub cities, and each city hosting all of the games for a conference in the NHL. To further explain, here's an important statement:
"24 teams (12 per conference) advance to this special conference-based playoff format based on the points percentage at the time the regular season was suspended on March 12. The top four teams in each conference will play in separate Seeding Round Robin tournaments to determine the seeding in the first round. They will be played with regular season overtime and shootout rules, with the clubs accumulating points like the regular season, and any ties in the round-robin standings will be broken by the regular-season points percentage. The lower eight teams in each conference will then play in the Qualifying Round, a best-of-five series with playoff overtime rules. The winners of this qualifying round will then advance to face one of the round-robin teams in the First Round."
I like this idea very much and I hoped that the NBA would do something similar, but before we get into the NBA's plan, here's one that came up with and I think would work in the future. The basketball teams seeded 1 through 5 each conference would clinch a playoff berth as they normally do, while the teams seeded 6 through 11 would compete in round-robin play-in tournament. The regular season would be shortened to at least 70 games and the teams seeded 6 through 11 would each play ten seeding games against one another with the teams with the best two records out of this round-robin stage (in both conferences) would win the sixth and seventh spot respectively. At the end, the remaining 4 teams seeded 8 through 11 would compete in a single elimination play-in tournament and the winner of this mini tournament would clinch the eighth and final spot, and from there, the regular format for the playoffs begin. Moving on, here is what the NBA has in stored this summer:
"The NBA Board of Governors approved a plan to restart the season on July 31, 2020, with 22 of the 30 teams in the league, all clubs within six games of a playoff spot. Under this plan, the 22 teams will play eight regular-season "seeding" games. A possible play-in tournament for the eighth seed in each conference would then be held if the ninth seed finishes the regular season within four games of the eighth seed. In order to advance, the ninth seed would need to defeat the eighth seed twice, while the eighth seed would just need one win to eliminate the ninth seed. The NBA's regular playoff format would then proceed as normal. All games would be played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Walt Disney World."
The pro basketball community are not at worried about this 22-team format as long as they get basketball back this summer. A few takeaways from this plan are listed as followed: the Draft Lottery will be held on August 25th, the final game in the NBA Finals would be held on October 12 and from there the off-season begins. The 2020 NBA Draft will be held on October 15th, Free Agency starts October 18th, training camp for the 2020-21 season will begin on November 10th, and last but not least, the 2020-21 regular is set to begin on December 1st. Coming up is a NBA edition of the Web Choice playlist which has people around the sports world have said about the NBA's plans to return during these difficult times.
