This Week's UPDATES

There's a lot that happened to me between last Sunday and today. After the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game last week, I was tweeting the final results of the game when all of a sudden, I was locked out of my own Twitter account. I couldn't figure out why this happened, but truth be known, I could have easily gotten back in if I confirm my phone number and email address. However, I did not get a confirmation code from Twitter because once again, I am with out service or cellular data on my iPhone 7. So I spent two full days without accessing Twitter, so I contacted them and explained what was going on, and they emailed me with this following statement: "Your account appears to have exhibited automated behavior that violates the Twitter Rules." I don't know much as to what that means but I emailed them back saying I need the confirmation code sent via e-mail or they could removing my cell phone number from my account. But on last Wednesday morning, I was stunned to see that I was allowed back in to my account because early in the morning, Twitter sent another e-mail with further details on the situation:

"We’re writing to let you know that your account is now unlocked. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. A little background: We have systems that find and remove automated spam Twitter accounts, and it looks like yours was flagged as spam by mistake. This can happen if an account exhibits automated behavior in violation of our rules. We apologize for the mixup, and hope to see back on Twitter soon."

So now everything is now fixed and I look forward to doing what I always do on my account, tweeting during big events like the Royal Rumble tonight and the Super Bowl next week. But before then, let;s dive into this week's 7-Day Round-Up with some serious topics on hand.

Our Main Story is about the Impeachment Trial of the President taking place all week in the U.S. Senate. Adam Schiff, Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and his fellow House managers made their opening arguments this past week on why they believe the President should be removed from office for abuse of power and obstruction of congress. Yesterday, the President's White House counsel and congressional defense team made their arugment on why he should not be removed by claiming that he did "absolutely nothing wrong." I for one find that very hard to believe and like most of America, I would like to hear a fair and honest trial from both sides. But Republican Senators are refusing to agree upon the Democrats' amendment to subpoena testimony from current and former White House officials and allow White House, State Department, and Office of Management and Budget documents into the trial as evidence. The GOP is convinced that there is no need for any witnesses as to them aren't any for the Democrats to call, but everyone else would like nothing more than to hear from witnesses and settle this matter once and for all. Just yesterday, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has been considered to be voting against removing the President from office, but then reacted after the president's lawyers presented their rebuttal to House managers. He said afterwards "he'd 'love to hear' witnesses in Trump trial," it's unclear to me if that means he would vote to allow more witnesses and evidence, but the Trial is moving right along there's not telling what'll happened this week. Check out the latest progress of the Impeachment Trial in a new and political #TwitterTrend with so much more coming our way.

Democrats see Trump lawyers boosting their own case for witnesses

Sen. Joe Manchin told me Trump’s team did a “good job” and are “making me think about things.” He added: “One thing that stuck in my mind is they said there isn’t a witness they have had so far that had direct contact with the president. I’d love to hear from Mulvaney and Bolton”

Manu Raju @mkraju
Asked if he’s thinking about acquittal, Manchin said: “I’ll be very impartial til the end.”

Trump lawyer Pat Philbin just cited famous legal quote: "Cross-examination is the greatest legal engine ever invented for the discovery of truth." I 100% agree that's why we need Adam Schiff to cross examine Trump, Mulvaney and others  #TrumpDefense  #AmericansWantWitnesses

Burgess Everett @burgessev
“I was absolutely stunned that they would consistently say that cross-examination is the greatest engine for truth and we’re playing a shell game,” said Sen. Jones. “It is the president that is playing that shell game”

Burgess Everett @burgessev
"They were very clear in saying there is not one witness we've heard from on the prosecution's case that they've made [that] has had direct contact with the president," Manchin said. "And I've been saying all along: How do you have a trial without hearing from witnesses?"

Steven Dennis @StevenTDennis
When Joe Manchin is all-but-pounding the table for witnesses, that's interesting.

Paul McLeod @pdmcleod
A lot of Democrats came out today saying the White House case shows the need to subpoena witnesses and documents. “The best way to resolve factual disputes, as any trial shows, is through witnesses and documents,” said Blumenthal.

Paul McLeod @pdmcleod
Tim Kaine: “They’re going to stand there and tell us cross-examination is the greatest engine for discovery of truth, but oh by the way we don’t want you to cross-examine witnesses. They made the case this morning for why documents and witnesses are absolutely necessary."

Paul McLeod @pdmcleod
Kaine also said the repeated shots at Schiff’s credibility were meant for Trump. “I think that was to make the president happy. I think these guys in some ways have an audience of one,” he said. "They’re trying to make the president laugh, smile or tweet."

Paul McLeod @pdmcleod
A couple Democrats were complimentary of White House lawyers. John Tester of Montana said “I think they made some good points but we’re not done.”

Also Joe Manchin of West Virginia told this to Kadia.

Kadia Goba @kadiagoba
Sen. Manchin, upon leaving the Capitol, said he thinks Trump’s attorneys were “succinct and spoke what they believe would be effective. I think they did a good job.”

Paul McLeod @pdmcleod
Cory Booker: “The thing that most irks me, I mean really irks me, is that we’re having this conversation when there are literally people who could confirm directly — like Mick Mulvaney or Bolton — they could confirm so much of this one way or the other.”

Burgess Everett @burgessev
Another one thing struck Dems? That lawyers say they can prove Trump did nothing wrong

"I know this from private conversations with colleagues: I don't think there's a person in that chamber, or very few of us, that believe this president did nothing wrong,” says
@CoryBooker

Greg Sargent @ThePlumLineGS
What Sen. Manchin is really saying here is that Trump's team actually made the case for additional witnesses, thus undermining their own argument against them.

After all, the Trump argument is absurd: Trump himself is blocking all witnesses who had direct contact with him.

Brian Beutler @brianbeutler
Manchin here raises a really good point that Collins, Murkowski, Gardner, Ernst, Tillis, Romney, McSally should have to address.

Matt Stendardi @mstendardi
Manchin will get shit for this, and I’m not one to usually give him a break, but he’s 100% right.  The only logical argument is to vote to subpoena the additional witnesses.
