The 17th Anniversary of 9/11 is this Tuesday, but today we have been it with an early surprise regarding that tragic day in America and it's the subject of today's #TwitterTrend. As some people probably remember, most of the Subway trains and stations were shut down during the 9/11 attacks in New York City, over a thousand lives were lost because of terrorist who hijacked two planes and then crashed them into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, causing both of the mto collapse a hour later. There was one Subway Station that suffered the most damaged on September 11, 2001, and that was the 1 train station located on Cortlandt Street near the World Trade Center in Manhattan. So after being closed for about seventeen years, the station reopened yesterday afternoon at 12PM and is now named "WTC Cortlandt", it even has a marble mosaic called “CHORUS” created by Ann Hamilton, it features special words from the United States Declaration of Independence & the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Anyone cares to see the new and improve station for themselves can do so right here with these following tweets.

Welcome back to the @NYCTSubway map, Cortlandt Street!

The 1 train station at WTC was destroyed on 9/11 and it took 17 years (!!) to reopen.

And here's the new Cortlandt St WTC station. It's very strange to see an @NYCTSubway station with virtually no columns at all.

With the re-opening of WTC Cortlandt St. (1) station, #MTAArts proudly presents “CHORUS” by artist #AnnHamilton. The marble mosaic marks the historic site w/text from the US Declaration of Independence & the 1948 UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

For the first time since the morning of September 11, 2001, 1 trains are stopping here at Cortlandt St. The station, now named "WTC Cortlandt" reopened at noon today. @wcbs880

Among the features here: handicap accessibility, easy transfers to the WTC transit complex, mosaics and inscriptions of the Declaration of Independence and the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and, notably, air conditioning. @wcbs8808

NYCT Subway @NYCTSubway
The name references its location within the World Trade Center site as well as its legacy under Cortlandt Street.

The new WTC Cortlandt station on the 1 line is now open to the public. It’s fully accessible, has fewer columns for easier customer flow, and is also air-tempered to keep you cooler on hot days.
