Production and Casting
NickCam is one of many series created by Dan Schneider for Nickelodeon, after The Amanda Show,
Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, and iCarly. Denzel Whitaker started to work on
Nickelodeon in 2005 when became a cast member on the last season of All That. After the end Drake & Josh and Zoey 101’s runs, production of NickCam
started on November 2007 through April 2008. The main cast wanted to perform on
the show while they were in school in their hometown in New York . Plans were
made for the show to be exactly like iCarly only to have Male actor as the
leading star. Whitaker agreed to be the main character and the Alexanders and
Scotts ask to join to strengthen their careers. Marlon Smith, cousin of Maunda and Kwame was chosen to play a secondary role. Janglian
was added as a secondary as well. Yvette Nicole Brown (from Drake & Josh), Alex
Nikolas (from Zoey 101), Ryan Coleman and Christina Kirkman (former All Cast
members) were added as recurring characters.
Sets
The series is filmed at Nickelodeon on Sunset from Sunset in Hollywood, California. Due to limited studio space for other shows at sunset, the series was sometimes taped at KTLA Studios located near Sunset. When Dan Schneider did Victorious, he decided to keep both NickCam and iCarly ongoing (for a possible crossover) and filmed at three shows back-to-back-to-back, the task seemed easy due to some cast members of NickCam having school days in New York during production in California. NickCam is set primarily at San Francisco and Mystic Mountain, however several scenes there are digitally altered photos of real life San Francisco and Six Flags Magic Mountain. The food court that Nick's friends go to is filmed in the parking lot of Nickelodeon on Sunset. Props and items from other of Schneider's shows are used making NickCam, iCarly and Victorious more connected together.

Series Finale after Season 5
In 2011, it was announced that the show would end with a total five
seasons. Production on the second half of season five began in February 2011
and Casey Scott was expected to return. The first spin-off to the series served
as sketch-comedy entitled “NickCam Shorts” lasting only one season.
Spin-offs
The series Rhodey, NY was the second spin-off to NickCam,
starring Kwame & Maunda Alexander as their characters from NickCam with
Jannae Scott as a newer character, and Leon Thomas III as Andre Harris from
Victorious. The series would follow
Rhodey Wilde (K. Alexander) and his cousin Rosanne Kenseth (M. Alexander) who
move to New York City and meet talentful new friends at an apartment building where Andre and his grandmother now live. After the cousins get jobs at the Opening of a new
Mystic Theme park, Rhodey finds ways to survive the big city; sometimes on his own.
The show was picked up by Nickelodeon on Nov 29th, 2012.
